Nexus Healthcare (‘Minding Your Mind’) provides independent psychiatric assessments and treatments for clients of all background and ages, specialising in provision of linguistically and culturally matched service for Koreans, culturally appropriate service for Asian clients, and perinatal mental health issues.
We provide private specialist assessment and recommendations for the treatment of mild to moderate mental health disorders on a referral only basis for people in the care of family doctors or independent psychotherapist.
We are NOT an after-hours or crisis response service.
We do NOT provide acute or intensive case-management services.
Clinical Psychiatry Services
Our psychiatrist offers a referral-only service for patients, presenting with a variety of mild to moderate mental health issues (for example; depression, mania, anxiety, phobias, PTSD, psychosis and ADHD), for specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnostic evaluation and psychopharmacological treatment if indicated. Our psychiatrist is trained in a number of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy but do not offer formal psychotherapy.
If regular psychotherapy is needed, we will refer patients to a psychologist / psychotherapist colleague as needed who will work with our psychiatrist in a collaborative way. We cannot offer crisis/emergency services, or intensive case-management services.
Initial Psychiatric Consultation
In short, this is an evaluative interview, which takes around 90 minutes in duration on average, but depending on complexity, more time may be needed in order to develop an understanding of the problems presented.
During the initial consultation, we will discuss presenting issues and any associated history and factors. Constructing a formulation (ways of understanding the current issues) and a treatment plan could involve a discussion about how different parts of history may together explain current issues, and how changes may be brought about to break the ‘cycle’ or ‘patterns’; and we may discuss the role of medication if appropriate, and whether other approaches are more appropriate.
An ongoing psychiatric follow-up will be arranged if indicated, and these appointments are usually 30 to 45 minutes in duration. This may occur alongside further counselling, psychotherapy or psychological therapy.
It is important for us to be able to communicate our findings and recommendations with your family doctor and or therapist for continuity of care so a brief letter will be written to the referrer at no additional charges. However, if a formal report is required for any purpose, then a separate charge may be incurred.
Telehealth
We offer, on certain circumstances, a tele-health appointment when the suitability and necessity for this has been established.
